From the observation and the study emerges the hypothesis, which is the cornerstone of scientific research. And yet, exactly what 'hypothesis' really means is matter of philosophical debate.

Integrating expertise in brain stimulation, neural signal analysis and neurobiological mechanisms in humans and animal models, the main research interest of the Functional Neuroscience Group at HM CINAC is to understand and develop new treatments for neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Parkinson's disease. This central theme is articulated into three highly-integrated research lines:
1 Therapeutic line Develop non-pharmacological treatments for Parkinson's disease and related disorders
The main hypothesis is that static magnetic fields can be used for non-invasive brain stimulation (originally based on Oliviero et al. J Physiol 2011)
2 Mechanistic line Understand the pathophysiology and pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease and related disorders
The main hypothesis is that the cerebral cortex plays a crucial top-down pathogenic role (originally based on Foffani and Obeso, Neuron 2018)
3 Methodological line Develop and validate biomarkers and data analysis methods related to our research.
